Job Description |
Environmental Educator Land and Natural Resources
Summary:
Promotes environmental awareness and compassionate stewardship through outreach to youth and the Tribal Community as a whole.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cooperatively and independently presents interpretive programs and guided hikes, both on- and off-site, to youth and adults.
- Develops, curates, and distributes print and digital content relating to department activities and goals.
- Helps develop and implement new activities and content.
- Assists with program documentation and evaluation.
- Assists and shadows other Natural Resources Department staff with their field work.
- Acts as a positive role model for respect of the natural environments.
Requirements (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
- Two years’ experience working with youth, preferably in the outdoors or relating to environmental education.
- Associate’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Education, Natural Resources, or related field preferred.
- Ability to adapt complex information to appropriate age group both verbally and in writing.
- General knowledge and identification of local flora and fauna, using field guides and keys.
- Possesses a desire to continually develop both as an educator and a naturalist.
- Willingness and availability to work, days, evenings, and weekends as assigned.
- Successfully completed hunter, boater, ATV/ORV, and snowmobile safety courses, or complete within one year of employment.
- Possesses valid driver’s license and be eligible for coverage under the Tribe’s insurance.
- Must successfully pass all applicable background checks and drug screen.
