    Job Description

    Hennepin County 4-H is seeking 2-3 community educators to support weekly facilitation at North High School, both in-school and afterschool programs on Mondays.  

    E-Club facilitators should be individuals committed to creating positive experiences for young people, through fun & creative action-learning-projects in the community.  Facilitators will provide mentorship as youth explore content & potential careers in environmental stewardship, urban agriculture, outdoor recreation, & more.

    Youth learning activities may include: community food systems, hydroponic salad gardening, culinary arts, composting & soil health, plastic waste reduction, pollinator activities, climate action steps, & field trips to learn about natural habitats & water quality.  

     

    Pay:

    • This role pays $15/hour+ based on experience for 4-6 hours a week. (2-4 hours of program & 1.5+ hours dedicated to program planning, community engagement, & special events)
    • Position will be hired & receive training & background screening from MN 4-H

     

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Coordinate, plan, & teach weekly 4-H content related to youth leadership, STEAM, & environmental stewardship - other topics of interest that may arise for participating youth also.
    • Develop & manage weekly programming, including lesson plans & supply lists to successfully implement activities as a team.
    • Recruit youth participants to support the program & actively participate in trainings & planning sessions. 
    • Maintain & share evaluation & attendance records with 4-H & partner staff
    • Address all behavior management in a professional & efficient manner
    • Represent 4-H & contributing partners appropriately at all times

     

    Required Qualifications: 

    • Must be 18+ years old to apply
    • Must pass a background check & complete Safety of Minors training
    • Post high school; diploma or equivalent is required 
    • 1+ years experience in the field of environmental science, teaching, youth work, or urban agriculture
    • Excellent written & oral communication skills; Ability to thoughtfully & effectively work in settings with diverse youth audiences; An interest in/skill for working with young people & adults, the ability to work independently & as part of a team

     

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • Pursuing a degree, or have a degree with a focus on youth development &/or environmental/agricultural education
    • Experience facilitating weekly programming in a formal or non-formal educational setting (3+ years) - environmental education a plus! 
    • Youth development experience (1+ years), working with & on behalf of youth
    • Knowledge & experience cultivating positive behavior management; Experience co-creating & co-facilitating lessons/activities
    • Access to reliable transportation
    • Experience working with 15-25 youth in a single setting (formal or non-formal)

     

    Time Commitment:

    • 5+ hours / week, for weekly programming & preparation
    • This 4-H E-Club* will engage approximately 25 youth between grades 9-12 on Mondays
      • In-School Hours: 1:00-2:45 (approx)
      • Afterschool Hours: 3pm - 5pm    
    • Breakdown: 1-3 hours of in-person programming, 1 hour of club prep & planning meetings per week in preparation for Monday Club Meetings.

    *There are multiple E-Club sites located across Minneapolis at additional Elementary & Middle schools
