By collaborating with the Education Supervisor, the Education Outreach Lead will develop, implement and deliver educational programs for schools, groups, organizations and events both on and off-site. Responsibilities include developing and conducting Western Wolves at Our Door programs, school programs, day and weekend public programs, developing community events and keeping information and styles within current programs up to date. The Education Outreach Lead will also coordinate the volunteer program in Ely, MN.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Duties 60%:
- Create, revise and deliver high-quality daily programs, scout programs, events and WolfLink classes
- Create, revise and deliver high-quality outreach programs at off-site locations in the Arrowhead region of northern MN
- Assist with Western Wolves at Our Door instruction and implementation
- Develop school programs that align with academic standards and age-appropriate learning styles
- Coordinate and lead Learning Adventures
- Interact with, educate, and assist the public as needed or assigned
- Ensure that the most up-to-date research and science behind wolf ecology, behavior, and evolution is shared and used in education department programs and materials
Volunteer Coordinator - Ely 30%:
- Work closely with Volunteer Coordinator – TC office to find volunteers for projects and tasks at the interpretive center
- Schedule, train and supervise volunteers (not associated with Wolf Care) at the Ely interpretive center
Administrative Duties 10%:
- Respond to email inquiries and telephone calls
- Enter appropriate program data on calendars and program trackers as needed
- Responsible for the safe transport of participants in the Center vehicle and participates in general maintenance and upkeep of the vehicle
- Assist in general maintenance and set-up of exhibits as requested
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Minimum 3-years’ experience working in an environmental education setting delivering programs to a variety of ages and group sizes using age-appropriate teaching methods, activities and styles
- Proven experience in program development
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision, willing to handle concurrent tasks and make appropriate judgments and decisions
- High level of initiative, self-motivation, creativity and enthusiasm
- Able to follow direction and protocols
- Ability to create, manipulate, and utilize spreadsheet, database, word-processing and email programs and utilize basic internet applications
- Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification
- Valid driver’s license with no restrictions other than corrective lenses
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s Degree in biology, environmental education or related field
- Strong knowledge of wolf biology, behavior, research, status and management issues
- Knowledge of presentation software programs and hardware associated with presentations
- Knowledge of online webinar software programs
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must be able to conduct outdoor programming in all weather conditions and walk over uneven terrain
- Able to travel occasionally, sometimes in extreme conditions or remote areas
- Availability to work weekends, evenings and some holidays
- Able to sit, stand, walk and carry/lift up to 30 pounds
- Able to assist participants with outdoor gear, such as strapping on snowshoes, in extreme temperatures
