Job Description

The Raptor Center (TRC) is excited to offer a full-time position as the Education Operations Manager for our education department. This role will be responsible for leading and overseeing daily tasks and operations with the education department. This includes leading and directing a team of staff and volunteers in the primary care and management of a collection of 28 ambassador birds (eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, and vulture) and managing the operations and logistics of TRC’s on and off-site education programs. This position reports directly to the Education Director.

40 hours per week; schedule of hours could vary based on department needs and could include weekends and/or evenings.

Salary range: $43,000 –$45,000

Responsibilities:

  • Primary curation responsibility for the collection of TRC ambassador birds, including, but not limited to managing bird: husbandry, enrichment, training, medical care, record keeping, enclosure management and maintenance, and federal/state required reporting
  • Supervision of a team of 4 education naturalists who perform education programs and assist with animal care/training
  • Management of the education program scheduling system, including supervising and scheduling student workers
  • Engagement and supervision of education volunteer crews.
  • Providing backup support as an education programmer or center tour host
  • Logistical support of the department, including inventory of supplies
  • Teaching workshops/classes on raptor care and management
  • Building relationships and collaborations with stakeholders and leaders in the raptor training and education space

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A H.S diploma and 4 years formal supervisory experience in a professional setting or a college degree and 2 years formal supervisory experience in a professional setting
  • At least four years of practical experience with management of wildlife in a captive setting
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to connect with people of all ages
  • Demonstrated teaching and/or public outreach experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Able to lift and carry 40 pounds
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with raptor care, management and training- including eagles
  • Knowledge of basic raptor ecology/natural history and human impacts on the environment
