Join our Mission Infrastructure team as the Director of Facilities Management. This role manages the daily operations and strategic planning for the buildings and grounds. This includes responsibility for all aspects of facility project development and management, as well as supervision of the Facility Support Manager, Custodial Manager, and Museum Engineers. The Director of Facilities Management assists in the development and implementation of building sustainability initiatives, particularly as they relate to energy efficiency and sustainable design. This position coordinates effective communication and collaboration between both internal and external partners.
Work Environment: This position is active and for extended periods of time may require sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching during any given scheduled shift. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including heat and cold. Ability to work evenings and/or weekends occasionally during special events or projects, including responding 24/7 for emergency calls.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and supervise physical plant operations. This includes the museum’s Saint Paul facility and Saint Paul parking facility. Proposes the necessary changes to meet current codes and to increase operational efficiency.
- Plan and operate the Saint Paul physical plant and parking facility, and their maintenance, to create a premier museum experience for all visitors, clients and staff and to minimize business disruption and maximize safety.
- Ensure optimum occupant comfort and utility consumption through ongoing monitoring and adjustments to the Building Automation System (BAS).
- Research and develop new maintenance procedures to ensure optimum operating efficiency.
- Recruit, hire and supervise staff.
- Negotiate labor union contracts.
- Create and monitor an annual operating plan and budget including monthly reports on performance-to-budget including reporting on any monthly budget variances.
- Coordinate all engineering and construction plans, operations, changes and preventive maintenance for museum facilities.
- Create a five-year capital improvement budget for the physical plants and grounds.
- Prepare to respond to emergencies, including weather situations, on a day-to-day and hour-to-hour basis.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates or two-year technical college degree in a related field.
- Knowledge of hazardous chemicals, spill clean-up, and disposal of waste.
- Knowledge and background in developing operational budgets.
- Knowledge using Google Suite applications.
- Proven and demonstrated experience in building management for major facilities (200,000 sq. ft. plus grounds).
- Proven and demonstrated experience with operation and oversight of a (BAS) Building Automation System.
- Proven and demonstrated experience in a maintenance union shop environment.
- Proven and demonstrated experience managing maintenance and repairs in an industrial or office setting.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Ability to supervise diagnosing and troubleshooting problems with (HVAC) hot /chilled water heating/cooling systems, ventilating and air-conditioning equipment, air compressors and associated systems, fire protection and life safety systems, BAS and control systems, and high voltage electrical systems.
- Must be able to push, pull, carry, and lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.

- Bachelors or four-year degree valued but not required.
- Excellent communicator, collaborator, and manager of people.

- Cultural competency and experience working with diverse communities.
- Willingness to be open and respectful of all backgrounds.
- Fluency in language(s) other than English valued (Hmong, Somali, Spanish).
