Climate Generation: A Will Steger Legacy empowers individuals and their communities to engage in solutions to climate change. Based in the Twin Cities, Minnesota, Climate Generation strategically engages and empowers youth, educators, decision-makers and the public to foster climate literacy and action with the goal of building a more equitable and resilient future for all.
Climate Generation recognizes the complexity of climate change and the importance of interdisciplinary climate change education. The climate change education program builds educators confidence and competence to teach climate change in their educational setting by providing curriculum resources, professional development and ongoing support. Climate Generation’s curriculum resources are aligned to science, social studies, and language arts standards and encourage students to think beyond science alone. Climate Generation also values Traditional Ecological Knowledge, social justice education, and STEM education.
Climate Generation: A Will Steger Legacy recruits, employs, trains, compensates and promotes regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, veteran status and other protected status as required by law. We actively seek to build and maintain a diverse workforce and foster the leadership of people of color, Indigenous people, people from working class backgrounds, women, LGBTQ+, and all people of varying and intersecting identities.
Duties and responsibilities:
support the climate change education program by developing instructional resources including curriculum, lessons, professional learning materials tailored to different settings, and other education resources to support K-12 formal, informal and higher ed educators and green professionals.
Program Support (70%)
- Support the Climate Change Education Manager in developing a plan to expand and support Climate Generation’s resource collection and Green Professionals in the Classroom resources and training program.
- Curriculum and resource development including keeping curriculum suite, lesson plans and toolkits current and seeking new opportunities to develop more resources
- Develop and implement presentations and materials for professional learning, student groups, and community events in coordination with the Education Manager, and the Youth and Community Engagement program staff
- Develop, implement, and lead when appropriate programs and projects with community partners, ensuring outcomes are aligned with education program mission and current education practice
- Work directly with the Climate Change Education Manager to develop a comprehensive annual work plan
- Collaborate closely with other program teams, specifically Sr. Youth Program Coordinator, Sr. Youth and Policy Manager, and Sr. Community Engagement Coordinator, on project specific tasks
- Collaborate with the Climate Change Education Manager and Communications Coordinator to develop and maintain the Teach Climate Network Hub and Climate Generation’s Education webpage
- Connect and collaborate with external partners, like CLEAN, to assess the needs of climate change education resources and to stay current on climate change research
Communications (10%)
- Lead on development of monthly Teach Climate Tips Newsletter
- Curriculum outreach/marketing to include creating and executing a plan that includes new and established partnerships, as well as expanding the reach of existing curriculum resources and toolkits in partnership with Communications Coordinator and Climate Change Education Manager
- Market the education program at conferences, through community and organizational calendars and direct contacts and through the development of the monthly educator e-newsletter, Teach Climate Tips, and direct communications with partners
Development (5%)
- Support Climate Change Education Manager and Senior Director of Programs with grant-writing, donor relations support, and budget management as it relates to programming
- Support the the organization with program evaluation and events support
Organizational Engagement & Health (15%)
- Engage in team functions including events, team meetings, strategic planning, & marketing
- Collaborate with Organizational Development & Equity Manager, and other colleagues, to ensure that an equity and anti-racism framework is used to develop and deliver all Climate Change Education programs and resources
- Coordinate with Sr. Development Coordinator on volunteer needs, event logistics, program materials, and vendor relations
- Support and participate in diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism work across the organization
