Climate Change Education Intern

Reports to: Senior Climate Change Education Manager

Location: Virtual/In-person in Minneapolis, MN likely the week of July 18, 2022

Start Date for This Position: Mid-Feb or Mid-March, 2022

End Date for This Position: July 29, 2022

Weekly Hours: 10-20 HOURS PER WEEK, except for the Summer Institute where we expect approximately 8 hours per day for three days with a maximum of 30 hours for the week of the event. The Summer Institute will take place the week of July 19, 2022. Some nights and weekends are required during this week.

Required Age for Eligibility: 18+

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide support to the 17th annual Summer Institute for Climate Change Education (80%)

  • Work in collaboration with the Climate Change Education Manager, Teach Climate Network Coordinator, and the Instructional Resources Coordinator to plan and execute the 2022 Summer Institute for Climate Change Education, a climate change conference for educators.
  • Support the development of online platforms including Zoom, Sched, and Moodle 
  • Manage session information on Sched platform
  • Support event presenter coordination leading up to the Institute
  • Provide technical and program support (July 18th - 22nd. Provide in session support for presenters and attendees

General support to the Education Program (20%)

  • Gather and collate information on student demographics, renewable energy infrastructure, and other information relevant to the LCCMR project, called TeachScience: Schools as STEM living laboratories.
  • Gather and collate information on renewable energy community partners relevant to the LCCMR project, called TeachScience: Schools as STEM living laboratories.
  • Perform outreach communications for the Teach Climate Network offerings, LCCMR, and other emerging programs, as applicable. 
  • Support the Teach Climate Network Website by updating educator resources and upcoming events.

Participate in a collaborative learning and work experience

  • Attend weekly check-in with supervisor
  • Attend bi-weekly check-in with Education Team, with more frequent check-ins as the Summer Institute planning needs increase
  • Participation in one to two large team meetings per month

Minimum Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Suite, email communications, and virtual video conferencing (e.g. Zoom Meetings)
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment
  • Interest in learning new technologies and software
  • Interest in education, climate change education, environmental science, environmental justice, and/or climate communication
  • Personal computer required. 

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience coordinating email communications, particularly monitoring and responding to email requests from program participants
  • Experience working in a virtual office or environment and/or with a remote team.
  • Interest in learning about program planning, event planning, marketing and outreach, and/or non-profit work

Skills Taught on the Job:

  • Writing for program communications and partnership building
  • Problem-solving, particularly around adapting virtual communication technologies for program needs
  • Creating interactive, virtual programs for education and work environments
  • Experience in a dynamic, collaborative, non-profit work environment
