Job Description
This position involves assisting camp leaders in creating a safe, age-appropriate, and positive learning environment during educational camp experiences centered on environmental science, natural history, and astronomy for children entering grades 1-8 in the 2022-2023 school year.
Duties and Responsibilities
Camp Activities (85%)
  • Assist summer camp leaders in creating a safe, fun and enriching camp environment. Includes enforcing and following COVID-19 safety policies such as frequent hand washing, wearing a face covering that covers the mouth and nose, daily health screenings, physical distancing and daily sanitation/cleaning.
  • Follow safety guidelines and practices ensuring that campers are safe at all times.
  • Assist with setup and tear down of camp activities.
  • Lead at least one camp activity per week.
  • Assisting in use of technology in the classroom, specifically Zoom video conferencing software to virtually connect with special guests.
  • Monitor and engage all age groups of campers during check-in and check-out by monitoring campers' well-being and safety, interacting with campers, playing games and leading hands-on activities.
  • Camp staff are required to follow all safety related policies and procedures at all times.
Other duties as assigned (15%)

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications
  • Coursework in education, physical or natural science, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with youth and adults in a team environment.
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate carrying the minimum number of credits to qualify for student employment.
  • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must be dedicated, dependable, flexible and enthusiastic.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with environmental education and/or interpretation, science, education, or youth studies.
  • Experience working in a camp or after-school setting
  • Experience using and troubleshooting virtual technology, such as Zoom.
  • Customer service experience.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
Hours, Pay, Other
  • Position start date: June 3, 2022
  • Position end date: August 26, 2022
Hours: 5 FT positions Monday-Friday
3 PT positions Monday-Friday
  • Required staff training days:
  • 5-6 days of training to be scheduled between June 3 - 10.  times will vary
Pay rate:  $15.00
Other: Successfully passing a background check is a requirement for this position.
