ABOUT THE POSITION:
This position is part of a vibrant, exciting and impactful statewide team focused on invasive species, natural resources, and related programs. This position helps the team grow its volunteer community and its impact by building and maintaining relationships, delivering content during trainings, and enlisting and interacting with volunteers, professionals and community members to manage aquatic invasive species across Minnesota.
The position will be housed within the Extension Aquatic Invasive Species team and will work closely with program leads, as well as other Extension and MAISRC faculty and staff. This position is accountable to the University of Minnesota Extension Program Leader for Natural Resources in the Extension Center for Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Program Coordinator will work with members of the AIS Detectors team to implement Extension AIS programs. The AIS Detectors Program is jointly supported by University of Minnesota Extension and the Minnesota Aquatic Invasive Species Research Center (MAISRC). The Program includes volunteer, professional, participatory science, and educational offerings that inspire Minnesotans to become part of the solution to AIS problems. Key offerings include the AIS Detectors Core Course, Starry Trek, AIS Management 101, an Aquatic Plant Identification Workshop, and the AIS Webinar Series.
Our interdisciplinary approach to education benefits from diverse perspectives, backgrounds, including both urban and rural experiences. RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Volunteer liaison - 40%
Enrich volunteer support by helping to arrange volunteer trainings, educational offerings, and networking events.
Provide AIS-related technical and programmatic support to volunteers in the field.
Coordinate with Extension Regional Support Staff to maintain the volunteer management system and assist with volunteer compliance
Maintain a regular system of communication with and among volunteers, including in person, via phone/email, and in virtual gatherings.
Program implementation - 20%
Contribute to development, implementation, and evaluation of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) educational activities, both online and in-person.
Adapt AIS-related content from specialists and educators for delivery during Extension programs and related communications.
Coordinate logistics, including scheduling, participant registration and communication, room reservations, communication with instructors, development and distribution of educational materials, and other tasks as assigned.
Elicit and synthesize evaluation and assessment data from participant evaluations and other feedback to support quality and continuing improvement of AIS programming.
Program logistics and partnership coordination - 40%
Adapt technical content to create AIS-specific social media content for the team’s social media efforts.
Coordinate with Extension Regional Support Staff to develop and send updates about program activities.
Maintain records and assist with preparation of reports on program activities, products, outcomes, and impacts (both electronic and paper records).
Develop, maintain, distribute, and track supplies for trainings and volunteer work.
Assist in developing and sustaining collaborations and partnerships with AIS stakeholders.
Working with the program team, help document program accomplishments.
Foster and contribute to a positive work climate with volunteers, colleagues, and partners.
Organize and plan meetings, trainings, and conferences related to AIS Detectors, Extension, MAISRC, and other groups. Meetings require periodic travel throughout the state.

BENEFITS/APPOINTMENT
This is a full-time AFSCME Unit 7 Technical, Labor Represented position of Community Program Assistant.
In-state travel may occasionally be necessary to perform the responsibilities of this position. Staff person is expected to have reliable transportation and have appropriate insurance. Mileage and sustenance reimbursement provided according to university policies.
The estimated starting pay rate will be $20-23/hr.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
A completed High School diploma and minimum two years professional experience in a relevant field (e.g., biology, environmental studies, natural resource management, communications, environmental education).
Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills with diverse audiences; using various methods of communication: verbal, written, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience coordinating oral and written communications including email newsletters.
Experience supporting volunteers and coordinating volunteer activities.
Experience developing materials and similar documents requiring basic design skills.
Experience with or interest in using technology similar to Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Canvas, Qualtrics, Google Suite, Zoom, and common social media platforms.
Experience with basic data analysis and reporting.
Experience coordinating or example reserving teaching spaces, coordinating participant registration and communication, room reservations, communication with instructors, and development and distribution of educational materials.
Experience working with new and diverse audiences.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Experience working both independently and as part of a team.
Additional Qualifications:
Cell phone that can be used, as needed, for work purposes; reimbursement is not provided.
Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including some evenings or weekends.
Ability to transport themselves or have reliable transportation to/from multiple locations for work, at times in a single workday.
Must be able to sit/stand for long periods of time and lift, push, pull, carry up to 30 pounds and push/pull 50 pounds occasionally.
Must be able to submit proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or submit a completed religious/medical exemption and agree to comply with the University's testing requirement.
