At Camp Vanasek (Part of the Brainerd YMCA) Great River Greening will bring Biochar Kilns to burn brush piles scattered throughout the site. Burning the brush in the kiln will create biochar, a compound that can promote healthier forests when spread back on the landscape.
Volunteers will haul brush to the centrally located kiln and prune the brush down to the appropriate length for the kiln. GRG staff will feed the brush into the kiln and answer questions/ educate on biochar, its uses and how the kilns work.
Lunch will be served to volunteers!!
This is a family-friendly event. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to attend. No previous knowledge or experience is necessary, we will provide the tools and training required
